FRIDAY

Elevation of Arnhem Land

The Andrew Gurruwiwi Band is a seven-piece group that combines elements of funk and reggae to create their unique "Yolngu Funk" sound. They have honed their skills by performing on the beach at Birrtjimi and in the dirt of Yirrkala, and have been compared to other successful musical acts from Arnhem Land such as King Stingray and Baker Boy. Led by Andrew Gurruwiwi, a blind Yolngu elder who is known for his energetic keytar performances and passion for sharing his culture through music, the band has gained widespread attention with their debut single "Gatjumak." Andrew Gurruwiwi is known for his shy but extravagant stage presence, and the band's high-energy performances are sure to get audiences moving and grooving.
